Portable macro bank light

Description

Styrofoam bowl. I used a second bowl to cut the reflector. I used superglue to attach it. The reflector is really dual-purpose. It also helps block the center hotspot. This way, most of the light, from the built-in flash on my camera, reaches the subject from the sides.
Effective range is from a few inches out to around 4 feet.
I eliminated the hotspots by first photographing the diffuser (bank light) in a mirror while attached, underexposing the picture by 2ev. Then, observing where the brightest areas were in the resulting photo, I used a Sharpie to crosshatch those problem areas out. Now the light is diffused to the sides more and from the center less!. Fullview this image above for a before/after example. This thing is simple, but works great! (And the price is right, too!)
